Obituary for Samuel "Sam" Johnson

Samuel "Sam" Johnson
The Lord called Samuel Johnson home on the morning of Thursday, March 8, 2018. Samuel, and his twin brother Nicholas (Nicky) was born to Neil Johnson and Jettie Holt-Johnson on September 25, 1929. Nicholas, is predeceased. Samuel worked as a Foreman for Westchester County in the Maintenance Division. He retired after 39 years of faithful service. He was also a voluntary Auxiliary Policeman with the White Plains Police Department for more than a decade. After his retirement, he became a school crossing guard. He enjoyed his job helping the children ... which kept him active and young at heart. Samuel was also a devoted family man to his wife, Phyllis, and daughter, Sandra Johnson-Clarke. He was affectionately known as "Papa", "Sam", "Dad", "Uncle Sam", and "Sammy Joe". His outgoing personality, terrific laugh, and love of life will never be forgotten.

Samuel Johnson was a veteran and served in the US Armed Forces (Army Division) from 1951-1953 with an Honorable Discharge. After his term in the military he met the late Phyllis Jean Shamley, On March 16, 1957 they were married. So his Celebration of Life, March 16, 2018, is Sam and Phyllis' 61st Wedding Anniversary. Now they'll be together forever!

Samuel believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He served on the Usher Board for over 10 years and was awarded with a Certification of Appreciation. The Parishioners always enjoyed his services as an Usher on Sunday mornings.

Sam is survived by his daughter, Sandra Johnson Clarke; Grandson Shaun Clarke; (2) Great-Grandchildren: Sonai and Xavier Clarke; Niece Paula Latimore; Grand Nephew Joel Latimore; Nephew Cleve Holt (Brenda); Grandniece, Tonsya Holt; 2 sisters in-law: Vera Morton and Peggy Christian (Horace); brother in-law Donald Shamley (Jean); and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Carmella Holt and Leanna Lattimore, and younger brother, James Johnson (Jim). Samuel will be missed dearly by his friends, family and everyone else that he pleasantly affected during his life. We love you Sam!

We Love You, Dad!
