Aldridge, Alfreda Diggs ~
Passed away quietly on May 19, 2023. Born in Chicago, IL to Dr. N. Alfred Diggs & his wife Carrie Simpson, Alfreda was educated in the public schools of Chicago. Matriculated at Wooster College in Ohio, Graduated from Roosevelt University in Chicago and received her MA in English and Drama from New York University.

After attending the American Academy of Dramatic Arts In NYC she toured England in "Anna Lucasta" for a year, ending the run at The Prince of Wales Theater in London. Desiring to work in TV production she found as an African American and a Woman in the “50’s” the greatest challenge was getting hired by a TV station. Despite the obstacles presented and after unbelievable efforts on her part, she finally joined CBS-TV answering fan mail on “The Garry Moore show" in 1953 where she learned the art of Television Production. Alfreda retired after 40 years as a Freelance Associate Director/Producer of mostly live TV shows, many of which took her around the world. Her last career was as a Real Estate Associate Broker with Coldwell Banker Residential in Briarcliff Manor from which she retired in February of 2019.

Alfreda spent over 10 years as a Guide at Kykuit, the Rockefeller Estate and was on the Benefit committees of several local charitable organizations.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Ira F. Aldridge, and her Sister Virginia L. Diggs. Alfreda is survived by her Step Grandson, Oliver Sloman, Cousin, Gina Gunn and her family and many friends. She will be buried with her husband at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, NY.

At her request there will be no service, there will just be a brief graveside gathering.

Private cremation has already occurred. At her request there will be no service, but there will be just a brief Graveside Gathering, where her cremains will be interred in her Family Plot with her husband.

Graveside Gathering & burial of her cremains will be on Friday June 16th, 2023, meeting at 2:00PM at the Cemetery. You may meet at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Office on Friday at 2:00PM. Please be mindful that we're only just arriving at the cemetery at 2:00pm & then need to check-in, be lead to the grave & set-up, so please be understanding to not expect to actually see the start of any services until probably just a little after 2PM. Thank you in advance for your understanding & patience.

If attending, please feel free to bring your own chair to sit on in case the gathering may be longer than you'd want to stand. Once at cemetery office area & acknowledged as part of our procession, please stay with your vehicles until lined up properly and all have arrived. Once we're organized & they're ready for us, Cemetery personnel will lead us in a procession to the gravesite. Once at the gravesite, please do NOT exit your vehicles until after the cemetery personnel have left the gravesite area & we explicitly instruct you to do so. Please follow & abide by the rules of the Cemetery, and directions of the funeral home staff and/or cemetery personnel at all times. We Thank You in advance for following directions, so as to make all go smoothly the day of the gathering, to eliminate further burden on the family, and to maintain the health & safety of All. Any questions, or if any clarity is needed, please call ahead to the funeral home and/or speak to us from a safe distance if present.
