Calvin was born February 3, 1932 in Greenville, South Carolina to Gladys Smith and Melvin Pearson. At the age of 10 his family moved to Mount Vernon, NY, where he attended the public schools. While in high school he was elected to the National Honor Society for excellent grades. Calvin also played varsity football.

After graduating from Edison Technical Vocational High School, Calvin volunteered for the U.S. Air Force where he worked as an Airplane Propeller Technician. He served 4 years and was honorably discharged. Immediately after leaving the Air Force he enrolled at University of Illinois and received a Bachelor Degree 3 & 1/2 years later.

Calvin returned to New York and began teaching Industrial Arts Education in the New York City school system, where he taught for 23 years. He is an active member of First Community Baptist Church, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.

Calvin is survived by his wife Doris, a son, 4 grandchildren, and many relatives & friends.
