Cecilia Bentil

Cecilia Sinama Afua Bentil of White Plains, NY was born 13 March 1934 in Winneba, Ghana and was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-­grandmother, sister, auntie, friend and neighbor. Maa,as she was fondly called by her family, was a proud alumna of Wesley Girls Secondary School in Cape Coast, Ghana, and earned a Certificate from Pitman’s Secretarial College in London, United Kingdom. She was a retired Medical Records Administrator for Schnurmacher Nursing Home in White Plains. Our dear Maa was called Home by the Lord on Saturday, June 21st. She is survived by three children: Elizabeth Bema Penn-Smetana and husband Craig of Orlando,FL; Emmanuel Kojo Bentil and wife Ingrid of White Plains; Thomas Sofo Bentil of Accra, Ghana; three stepsons: Samuel Bentil and wife Abena of St. Louis, MO; Michael A. Bentil, Jr. of Queens, NY; Anthony C. Bentil and wife Salimie of Bronx, NY; six grandchildren: Matthew Penn of Washington, DC and Liana Penn of Orlando, FL; Maxwell, Madison and Sidney Bentil of White Plains; and 1 great grandson Isaiah of Orlando. She also is survived by her brother Salisbury Kwamena Dadzie of Cleveland, OH, and her sister Dinah Dadzie of Accra, Ghana; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held at Lee’s Funeral Home, White Plains at 2:00PM, Thursday, July 3, 2014 where friends are invited to attend and celebrate Maa’s life.

In lieu of flowers, Contributions in her memory may be made to Church In The Highlands, where she was a longtime member.
