Listen to Obituary
Dorothy Otelia Hudson departed this life at the Grove Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Valhalla, NY on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Dorothy was born September 3, 1931 in Scottsville, Virginia, Albemarle County. She was the eldest child of the late Edward Alexander Hudson and the late Noralene Smith Hudson. Dorothy is predeceased by her siblings Edward Alexander Hudson, Halcott Venable Hudson, Barbara Mae Roberts and Marie Chambers.

“Dottie”, as she was affectionately known, completed her early education in the Albemarle County school system before moving to White Plains, NY at the age of 13. Dottie grew up in White Plains, and graduated from White Plains High School in 1949. After high school, she pursued various interests such as attending business school, and becoming a licensed real estate agent. In 1973 Dottie chose her career path with IBM and remained with the company for 25 years as an Executive Secretary until she retired. In 2004, Dottie relocated from White Plains to Hartsdale.

In retirement, Dottie remained busier than ever, engaging in all her favorite things to do, such as attending Bethel Baptist Church, where she was a member for 74 years, where she loved praising the Lord in her soprano voice, and looking forward to attending Lott Carey Convention annually. She was a member of the Missionary Ministry, the Senior Ministry, the Voices of Inspiration Choir, and a Sunday School attendee.

She enjoyed taking long walks throughout White Plains and visiting with family. She was a style ‘diva’ with a strong fashion sense who loved to shop her favorite designer, Eileen Fisher. Dottie’s passion for fashion allowed her to tap into her creative side, and showcase her God given talents in knitting and crocheting. With her gift, she created beautiful garments which inspired Bergdorf Goodman, a high-end retailer, to offer her an opportunity to sell her pieces in their store on consignment Dottie declined, and continued to enjoy knitting and crocheting as a hobby.

Aunt Dorothy will be remembered by a host of nieces and nephews. Alice M. Hudson-Powell, who she shared a special bond with, Adrienne. M. Roberts-Wood, Debra L. Chambers, Curtis B. Chambers, April Hudson, Dionne Hudson, Darrin V. Hudson, Charles A. Hubbard, Mariah and Tyler Hudson. Great nieces and nephews, Kristina N. and Lauren E. Wood, and Kamari L. Arzu. She leaves beloved cousins in Virginia and New Jersey.

Throughout her life she sought and appreciated the finer things that life offered her and as she aged, she never lost her zeal for learning. She embraced technology, at age 88 she was tech savvy, enjoying searching genealogy, and Google was her best friend. Dottie was strong willed, some might characterize as feisty, astute, proud, a comical lady with an infectious laugh, who lived her life on her terms. She was loved, and will definitely be missed.
