Easter Curtis

Listen to Obituary
She was grace
One who never grew old
A smile made of sunshine
A heart of pure gold
She was grace
Eyes that were windows of her ancestors past
Hands that could cleanse your inner soul
She was grace
Still keeping an eye on you and me
Let’s make sure she likes what she sees
She was grace
Easter Mae Curtis
That’s what we should all aspire to be

Easter Curtis, formerly Easter Mae Nicholson was born on April 20, 1930 to the late Lieutenant and Edna Pearl Nicholson in Kemper County, Mississippi. She married Otis Curtis in 1948 and planted roots in the Bronx, New York. To this union was born a daughter, Joyce Ann Martindale who she dedicated her life to.

Easter loved being around and speaking to her family. She enjoyed frequent conversations with her siblings and extended family members. In addition, Easter got her masterful culinary skills from her Mother and took pure delight in whipping up yummy meals and desserts for family and friends. During the holidays, the family really enjoyed her sweet potato pies, macaroni & cheese, potato salad and a host of other meals. Easter's creativity extended to making wigs, styling hair, sewing and crocheting. In her younger days, she was known for doing the jitterbug, which she truly enjoyed. Easter would smile whenever she would reminisce of going to social affairs with her sister, Matty and friends. In her later years, Easter loved watching soap operas like "The Young & the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful" with her husband, Otis Curtis better known as Otis D.

Easter was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandma/great grandmother, auntie, great auntie and a loving friend to many. She leaves to continue her legacy: husband, Otis Curtis; daughter, Joyce Martindale; two granddaughters, Datra Martindale and Chante Martindale: grandson, Randall Martindale; three great grandchildren, Jalen Martindale, Eden Martindale and Brooklynn Martindale; three sisters, Mattie Haynes, Jean Harper and Carol Williams plus a host of nieces and nephews.
