Edmund Randall

Listen to Obituary
Edmund LeRoy Randall was born on January 2, 1925, in Tampa, Florida. He took his final rest, after a brief illness, on April 1, 2017, at White Plains Hospital with his beloved wife, Rosemary, by his side.

Ed was one of three children born to Jesse and Eugenia Norwood Randall. He had two sisters, Pearl and Louise. Ed attended church schools in Tampa and graduated high school in 1943. In March 1944, he was drafted into the Army. As a conscientious objector, he served as a Chaplain’s Assistant and was awarded both victory and good conduct medals. Ed was honorably discharged in May 1946.

After leaving the Army, Ed attended Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama, where he majored in theology with a minor in education. After graduating from Oakwood in 1948, Ed pastored and taught at various small churches in the south before migrating to New York, where he married Rosemary Jones. Of that union one daughter, Judy, was born.

Ed was employed by the City of Rye for 25 years from which he retired in 1990. He would later have a second career that lasted for more than 20 years as a chaplain at the Jennie Clarkson Campus of St. Christopher’s, Inc. Ed was always actively involved in civil rights, humanitarian and community improvement efforts. He was a well-respected and influential member of the Greenburgh community and served as President of the Parkway Homes Civic Association.

He was a faithful member of the First Seventh-Day Adventist Church of White Plains for over 50 years. As the first elder for many years, Ed was instrumental in the establishment of the church’s current home on Juniper Hill Road. Ed also served the church as an usher and was a beloved Sabbath School teacher.

Ed enjoyed traveling, gardening, keeping up with current events and spending time with family and friends. He had an abiding faith in God, which never wavered. Ed’s dedication to serving God and his fellow man was awe inspiring.

He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife Rosemary; daughter Judy (Mayo); grandchildren Ethan and Sara; brother-in-law William Jones (Helen); nephews Gregory, Gordon, Erik and Matthew; and a host of other relatives and friends.
