Esmie Grant

In Loving Memory

Esmie Cynthia Grant was born March 4, 1937 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies to Charles Augustus Grant and Zilotries Amanda Beckford. She united in Holy Matrimony to her beloved Husband Zedekiah Grant on March 30, 1966 in Kingston, Jamaica. To this union, two sons, Michael and Arthur, and one daughter, Sharon were born. She entered into eternal peace on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren in Lake Mary, Florida.

Esmie was a loving and committed wife to her husband Zedekiah and dedicated mother, nurturer to her children. When she arrived to the United States, she attended training to become Certified Nurse Assistant and received her certification. She worked in hospitals and Nursing homes such as Blythedale Children’s Hospital, Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation, and in Homes for individuals with disabilities. Around 1985 Zedekiah and Esmie decided she would become a Homemaker along with managing all their rental properties. Along with taking care of her family she loved shopping. She would often be the first one when stores like Macy’s or Alexanders opened their doors to catch the doorbuster sales. After the retirement of her husband Zedekiah, they relocated with her Mother-in-law Rachel Thompson to enjoy the year-long wonderful weather in the sunshine state of Florida where they took annual cruises. Because of the importance of family, their daughter Sharon soon followed, and later their son Michael followed with his family. Zedekiah pre-deceased Esmie after 50 years of marriage on July 5, 2016.

Esmie leaves memories to be cherished by: adoring sons, Michael Grant (Lake Mary, Fl) and Arthur Grant (White Plains, NY) and lovely daughter Sharon Grant-Robinson (Lake Mary, FL); her only living sibling, Etta Donaldson (Ft, Lauderdale, FL); Grandchildren: Robert, Jonathan, Kenneth, Jordan, Ishaq, Maurice, Kimberly, Amaya, Ashanti, Tafari, Deidre Anna, Clinton and A.J.; and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, family and friends. She is predeceased by her mother Zilotries Grant and father Charles Grant; son, Wesley Grant; and siblings: Kathleen, Sylvia, Lucilda, Loretta, Madge, Hubert “Boysie”, Isaiah, George “Coolie”, Joseph. Esmie will be laid to rest forever in the family plot with her husband Zedekiah, and alongside her mother and father-in-law Rachel and Arthur Thompson and her brother-in-law Mortimer Grant.

Esmie called “Esmine” by her loving husband and also known by her friends as “Essie”, touched and made a difference in the lives of many people with her smile, generosity and compassion. Let us celebrate for this is not an ending, but this is the beginning of her new life with her husband Zedekiah. Death leaves a heartache that no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. You will always be in our thoughts and hearts for this is her birth into eternity until we meet again.
