Florence Greene

Listen to Obituary
Florence Delores (Green) Greene peacefully entered eternal rest, leaving this earthly world suddenly and unexpectedly. Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew her.

Florence was born on December 8, 1932, in Jetersville, Amelia County, VA, to the late Leroy and Lavinia (Marshall) Green. She departed this life on March 17, 2025, at the age of 92. Florence was educated in the Jetersville Public Schools.

She was a beacon of warmth and compassion, a woman whose heart was unlimited and whose love knew no bounds. She devoted her life to her family and to her faith, always leading with kindness and an unwavering trust in God’s plan. She was a woman of strength, grace, and humility, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Florence came to know the Lord at an early age and was baptized at her home church in Jetersville, Virginia. After moving to White Plains, she joined Bethel Baptist Church on October 2, 1950. It was there, after a church service, that she met the love of her life, Herbert E. Greene. They were married on May 22, 1952, and their union was blessed with four children.

When her husband was ordained as a Deacon in 1957, Florence wholeheartedly embraced her role as a devoted and dedicated Deaconess. She also served for many years as a member of the Chancel Choir. Florence was an active member of the Eureka Grand Chapter of Eastern Stars, where she served as the past Worthy Matron of Bright Hope Chapter #46. Additionally, she was a member of the Daughters of Isis, the female auxiliary of the Prince Hall-affiliated Shriners.

A devoted Christian, she walked closely with the Lord, embodying His love in all that she did. Her faith was not just something she spoke about—it was something she lived. She spent her days spreading kindness, lending a helping hand to those in need, and reminding us of the power of faith and prayer. Her unwavering belief in God’s goodness carried her through life’s challenges and served as an inspiration to those around her.

For many years, Florence worked in the home of Joseph and Bernice Oettinger. Her daughters fondly describe her as "their mother's best friend." Nancy and Betsy (Hutman) Oettinger remained deeply devoted to Florence, adopting her as "their mother.” Florence had a passion for decorating and enjoyed browsing home magazines. Seizing the opportunity to pursue this interest further, she enrolled in a real estate course to become an agent. She worked as an associate for many years at Mary E. Ramey Real Estate. Upon Mary Ramey's retirement, Florence joined ERA Realty in North White Plains. For more than 60 years, Florence served as an Election Inspector for Westchester County, proudly representing the Town of Greenburgh. She held this esteemed position until 2018, when she relocated to Maryland.

Above all else, she was a devoted mother and grandmother, a guiding light in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her love was boundless, her wisdom immeasurable, and her laughter contagious. She created a home filled with love, warmth, and the aroma of home-cooked meals that brought the family together. Her hands were never idle—always comforting, always giving, always creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert; her brothers, William Green, Marshall (Lou) Green, and Pleasant (Jabo) Green; and her sister, Pearl Elizabeth Solomon.

Florence leaves behind a loving family who will continue to carry her spirit in their hearts: her beloved children, Herbert Greene, Adrienne Randall, Gail (David) Bass, Sandra Davis; her grandchildren, Jarrett (Kimberlee) Randall, Jason (Marie) Randall, Jasmine Bass, David N. Bass III, Leah Davis, Jacqualyn Davis and her great-grandchildren - Kaiden, Kasandra, Kamren, Kaylee, Johan and Kaysi Randall; and Riley Corley, who brought her endless joy. She was also a treasured aunt and friend to many and a mother figure to all who needed one.

Though she is gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts. Rest in peace dear mom.

"Well done, good and faithful servant... enter into the joy of your Lord." — Matthew 25:23
