Mrs. Geneva Harden Richards, affectionately known as “Jenny”, was born June 27, 1930 to the late Lee Harden and Gertrude Chess Harden in Allendale County, South Carolina. Many years of blissful life ended on June 13, 2013 in Greenwich, Connecticut when Jenny was called from this earthly scene to awaken to a newness in heaven.
As a child, Jenny grew up in Allendale where she was educated in the public schools of Allendale County.
Early in life she moved to Miami, Florida where she met the late Nuel George Richards. They were united in Holy Matrimony on April 9, 1959. She and Richard relocated to Greenwich, Connecticut then Port Chester, New York; which had been her home for over 40 years.
Jenny joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Port Chester, where she served on the Missionary Board for over 30 years.
She retired from the Nathaniel Witherell Convalescent Home of Greenwich, Connecticut. After retirement, she became a homemaker and home healthcare worker attending to the elderly.
She enjoyed fellowshipping with her friends at the Port Chester Senior Community Center and stopping by McDonald’s every morning just to sit and have a cup of coffee.
Jenny was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and a sincere friend. She was a woman of dignity and pride. She was a pillar of strength and a guiding light to all that knew her. She has left a vacancy in the family and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Lester Nuel Richards.
Jenny leaves to cherish her fond memories: her two children: Leon Harden of Allendale, SC and Patricia C. Porter of Rowlett, TX; one sister, Lena Manning of Allendale, SC; one daughter-in-law, Jettie M. Harden of Allendale, SC; five grandchildren: Leslie M. Harden and Tiffany Harden both of Columbia, SC, Laticha Westberry of Charlotte, NC, Arin Porter and Sterling Porter both of Rowlett, TX; three great grandchildren: Devonte’ C. Harden and Christian C. Dinkins both of Columbia, SC and LoveJoy of Charlotte, NC; one aunt, Tomezeta Spann of Allendale, SC; a dear friend, Martha Nelson; and a host of nieces, nephews, loving cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
