Glenis Fields

Listen to Obituary
Glenis Ingrid McGarrell Fields was born, raised, and educated in Guyana, South America. She was the daughter of Arnold and Selma McGarrell.

Glenis spent her primary school days at the Ann’s Grove Methodist School. After successfully writing the Secondary Schools Entrance Examination, she went on to attend Buxton High School. After graduation, she became a member of the teaching profession.

In 1974, Glenis became a student of The Cyril Potter College of Education, at the end of which she became a Class1 Trained Teacher majoring in Elementary Education. She joined the staff of The Ann’s Grove Government (Roman Catholic) School and consequently became affectionately known as “Teacher Glenis” by her students and their parents.

In May, 1977, Glenis married Dacosta Fields and moved to Barbados to be with her husband and start a family. This union produced two beautiful and talented daughters, Kevonne and Dacia. She and her family migrated to the United States where she lived until her life’s journey ended on Saturday, March 18, 2017.

Glenis is survived by her husband, Dacosta; two daughters, Kevonne and Dacia; sisters Dolly (Lennox), Desiree, Sandrie, Volda (Andrew), LaVerne, Ann (Lynden), Patsy; brothers Monty (Denise), Arnold and Floyd; nieces and nephews Nikki (Jamaal), Andrea (Eric), Rowan, Reon (Douglas), Ruel, Karson, Kevin, Nicolas, Andrew, Dylan, Noel, Nadine, Yonette, and many others; great-aunt of Simone, Jamieson and other relatives and friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Christine Geddes, Rev. Bonnie, Rev Jeanne and the “family” of the Chatterton Hill Church, and so many others for all your support and prayers during this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Glenis’s memory to the American Cancer Society and/or the Chatterton Hill Church Memorial Fund.
