Gregory Jackson, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and resilience. He was born on June 1, 1948, at Harlem Hospital to Mabel and Johnnie Jackson and was raised in the Bronx, where he developed the strength and determination that would guide him throughout his life.
Gregory attended Haaren High School in Manhattan, where his natural leadership began to take shape. From an early age, he was driven by a desire to build a better life for himself and those around him. That determination led him to secure his first apartment on Carroll Place, marking an important milestone in his journey toward independence.
He began his working life in New York City’s clothing industry as a delivery man, bringing garments directly to customers. This experience sparked a lifelong appreciation for fashion and personal style. Over the years, Gregory built a strong and steady career, working for the Parks and Recreation Department, the Housing Authority, a private construction company, and ultimately RiverBay Corporation, where he remained until his retirement. Known for his resourcefulness, he often brought home items from work, earning him the affectionate nickname “ROC.”
In 1976, Gregory’s life changed forever when he met Cheryl on a blind date. Their connection was immediate, and their love story blossomed into a lasting partnership. They were married on February 11, 1982, and shared 44 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering support.
Gregory was a natural athlete who loved sports, especially tennis, basketball, and football. He was also an avid chess player who enjoyed strategy and competition. Beyond sports, he had a passion for mystery and science fiction shows and movies, along with a deep appreciation for R&B and jazz music. He found joy in traveling the world and savoring great food, always embracing life’s experiences to the fullest.
Affectionately known as the “Candy Man,” Gregory was rarely without his signature bag of sweets, which he happily shared with family and friends. He was a true comedian at heart—quick with a joke, full of humor, and always ready to make others laugh. His vibrant personality made him the life of every gathering, and his presence brought warmth and joy to those around him.
Gregory is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl; his children, Kecia, Octavia, Jerrell, Latoya, Tamara, and Jonathan; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his aunts, uncles, and brothers, Lyndon Boyd and Gerald Williams. He was predeceased by his sister, Joanne Moore and brother, Tyrone Williams.
Gregory Jackson will be remembered for his strength, his humor, his love for family, and his ability to light up any room. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
