Mr. Harold Royster, lovingly known to family and friends as “Splow”, died unexpectedly in New York-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital on Monday, December 16, 2019 at the tender age of 80-years old.
Harold is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Joan I. Royster; his children from his previous marriage to the late Lula Mae Royster - Harold Royster, Jr. (“Hank”) of Greensboro, NC, Patricia Wynn (“Cookie”) of Yonkers, NY, and Eric Royster of Yonkers, NY; his step-children Vincent Taylor of Decatur, GA, Victor Taylor of Greenburgh, NY, Vance Taylor of Peekskill, NY and Jena Taylor of Decatur, GA; his brother Henry Royster of Greenburgh, NY; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Harold is preceded in death by his mother Vera Smith, his father William Floyd Royster, his step-mother Bessie Royster, his brothers William, Royale and James Royster and his sister Bertha Mae Boyd.
Harold was born August 25, 1939 in Valhalla, NY. He attended the Greenburgh Central School District and worked for the Town of Greenburgh for 33 years. Harold’s favorite hobby was bowling in his younger years and he was a valuable member of the White Plains Bowling League. His children remember him as a kind and patient father who encouraged them and always provided loving support and words of wisdom. His grandchildren remember his dedication to all of their extracurricular activities, plays, dances and cheering them on during team sports. His friends remember his warm heart and smile, his charm and his laughter. Harold was always engaged and present when it came to his family; nothing meant more to him in life.
