Herbert Anthony Greene peacefully entered eternal rest, leaving this earthly world on Monday, December 15, 2025, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. His legacy of love, faith, and kindness will forever be etched in the hearts of all who knew him.

Herbert, (Herbie or Superb Herb) as he was called by many, was born on August 19, 1951, in White Plains, NY to the late Herbert E. and Florence D. Greene. Herbie graduated from Valhalla High School in Valhalla, New York, in 1969 and went on to further his education at Wentworth Institute in Boston, Massachusetts, where he earned an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Architectural Engineering Technology. Upon graduating, he immediately began his architectural career in 1971; joining Henri A. LeGendre & Associates, Architects & Planners, in New York City.

In 1972, Herbie’s professional training was unexpectedly interrupted when he was drafted into the United States Army. He served honorably as a Cartographic and Surveying Draftsman in Schwetzingen, West Germany, from August 1973 to October 1975, and was honorably discharged with the rank of SP-4.

True to a promise he made in 1972, Mr. LeGendre welcomed Herbie back to the firm upon his return from military service in 1975. Their relationship was grounded in mutual respect—both as architectural professionals and as veterans who had served in the same branch of the military. While continuing his work with Mr. LeGendre, Herbie pursued his education at the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture.

While at NYIT, Herbie gained the expertise that helped transition the firm from hand drafting to Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), leading to his promotion to Chief Draftsperson at what later became LeGendre-Johnson-McNeil Architects in White Plains, New York. After obtaining his architectural license, he worked as a Licensed Architect and Project Manager with several design/build firms throughout Westchester County and New York City.

Herbie was deeply passionate about music in all its forms, whether deejaying—often announcing with his famous line, “Let’s rock the house!”— or playing the trumpet with the Valhalla Band and with an independent Drum and Bugle Corps. He fondly shared many stories with his family about his time and love for wrestling as a member of the Valhalla Varsity Wrestling team. Herbie was also an avid roller skater and cyclist, often competing in the New York City Five Boro Bike Tour until a knee injury sidelined him.

Herbie loved New York; however, in December 2019 he relocated to Upper Marlboro, Maryland, to live closer to his mother and sisters. In the past, Herbie stated that he would never move to Maryland. When he said he was moving to be closer to us, we teased him - “You miss your mommy?” LOL. Despite the move, he remained a steadfast supporter of the New York Knicks, Yankees, and Giants, win or lose.

While living in Maryland, he took up piano lessons after health challenges prevented him from continuing to play the trumpet. Above all, Herbert’s greatest joy came from spending time with his beloved family.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his sisters - Adrienne Randall, Gail Bass (David), Sandra Davis, bonus daughter - Shashauna LaLise Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
