Inez Hodges was born 88 years ago on September 25, 1933 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Matthew and Belle (Fitzgerald) Hodge.
Inez graduated high school in 1951 from South Fayette Township School District in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. She received her practical nurse license from the University of the State of New York in 1970. She received her Associate in Applied Science degree in 1974 from the Borough of Manhattan Community College of the City University of New York, becoming a Registered Professional Nurse. In 1994, she received The Group Performance Citation for exemplary performance of duty from the Comprehensive Community Health Center, Zuni, New Mexico. In 1996, she received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of New Mexico.
Inez lived in White Plains, New York and Brooklyn, New York for many years before moving to Mississippi to begin her work for the Public Health Services. Inez was a registered nurse for the Indian Health Services for 25 years. She worked in the emergency room on several Indian reservations. Her work took her from Mississippi to Alaska, where she lived for several years above the Arctic Circle, and including New Mexico and finally to South Dakota, where she retired in 1998.
She moved back to White Plains, New York where she resided until her death on October 4, 2021.
Inez had a passion for her pets. She had several dogs throughout her lifetime. Her dogs, Toca, Pepsi, and her last dog, Alfie, kept her enthusiasm for life.
Inez was the last to survive of her 13 sisters and brothers; Dearie Ridley, Irene Stroud, Clyde Hodge, Buster Hodge, Baby Hodge, TeCora Glenn, Mack Hodge, Clora Gregory, Ernest Hodge, Eunice Mitchell, Pearl Young, Harold Hodge, Norma Ethridge. She is survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great grand nieces and great grand nephews.
The family is planning a memorial service in the future.

Private cremation has already been held. A Memorial Service may be planned in the future, & if so, that information will be updated herein once determined & scheduled. Though any possible memorial service is still pending, please still leave written condolences now herein on the Memory Wall to express your sorrow, share your memories, and as an expression of sympathy & way to communicate with/offer comfort to the family, that they and others may see, and may be a lasting tribute in her honor, & SIGN IN on the Memory Wall as a virtual way of signing a guest book.

As a lasting tribute, In Lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made in her name/memory/honor to the American Humane Society on your own, or to either of the local Humane Societies listed herein (may be done through donation tab/link here in website at the bottom of this page). As cremation has already occurred, NO flowers should be sent to the funeral home, though you may also choose to plant a tree in her name/memory/honor as another lasting tribute, and/or wait to see if there may later be a public memorial service & send any flowers at that time.
