Izetta was born on August 12, 1920 to James and Arie Young of Pendleton, South Carolina. In 1947 Izetta married Jesse Shoulders and resided in New Rochelle, New York, and later moved to White Plains where she resided until her death.
Izetta’s life had been devoted to the love of God, family and the community. Throughout her long and inspiring lifetime, she had given unselfishly of herself toward the greater good and demonstrated in countless ways her dedication to the welfare of others. She earned the respect and affection of those whose life she has touched. Izetta had been witness to momentous milestones in history and in a meaningful way had been an instrument of good and a stabilizing and uplifting influence for others; Her vast experiences are evident in her strong faith, independence, determination, dependability, wisdom, compassion, and her love, trust and care for others.
She was a graduate of O.C.T.S. High School and the Denmark Cosmetology School. She also worked for Alexander’s Department Store and as a Child of God had always demonstrated a devotion to her church. A long devoted and dedicated member of Bethel Baptist Church for more than a half century, Izetta loved the church, she was a member of the Chancel Choir, Missionary Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Bible Study, Sunday School, Gospel Chorus and Progressive Club. She was also a longtime member of Westchester Community Organization (WCO).
In 1972 Izetta joined the Maybelle Chapter #18 Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated. She became the Worthy Matron in 1984 and served as a Past Matron. She is a Life Member of the Maybelle Chapter #18 Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Affiliated and was named a Life Member under the auspices of Worthy Matron Patron, Moore and Skinner-Moore.
Predeceased in death by her loving husband Jesse C. Shoulders, three brothers Ithema, Odell, & Bravell Young, two sisters Marie (Young) Williams & Corrine (Young) Mack.
Izetta’s life was embraced with passion and purpose and with the knowledge that in addition to her devotion to God, her family, especially daughters Teresa and Jacquelyn and granddaughter Jessica was one of her greatest blessings.
Izetta leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters; Teresa (Tommie) Brewer of Canton, Ohio, Jacquelyn Shoulders of White Plains, NY; one granddaughter; Jessica Shoulders Whitehead of Dover, Del., one sister; Ellen Sherard of Temple Hills, Maryland, one brother Lummie Young, Sr. of Pendleton, South Carolina. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special supporters Reverend Anthony Montague, Tammy and extended family.
