Joseph Williams
Joe worked at the White Plains school district as a Masonry foreman until his retirement in 1982. In addition to his duties with the school system, he and his wife Dorothy ran a successful daycare center known at Barnyard Day Nursery. Joe and Dorothy were married for 34 years until her passing in 1979.
Joe later married Juanita Lane, his high school classmate in 1981. They were married for 22 years until her passing in 2003 in Athens Georgia. Joseph is a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist church in Athens, Georgia.
Joe is a lifetime member of the Montford Point Marine Association, a non-profit military veterans organization, founded to memorialize the legacy of the first African Americans to serve in the United States Marine Corps. On June 27, 2012, Joe Williams and some 400 “Original “Montford Point Marines received the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor in recognition of military service during World War II.
Joe’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by his daughters Kathy Dawson and Linda Brown, 10 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great- great granddaughter, his sister Thelma Williams and a host of relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Monday November 15, 2021, 10:00 am at Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, New York. The family wishes to thank community Hospice for its thoughtful service and tender care. The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made in his name to the National Montford Point Marine Association Inc. Scholarship program.

Scholarship program (may do on your own through website - montfordpointmarines.org - then click Scholarships); and/or you may choose to plant a tree in his name/memory/honor as another lasting tribute. If flowers are sent despite the family request, they may be delivered to Lee's Funeral Home either on Sun. November 14th, 2021 by/before 6:00PM, or on Mon. Nov. 15th by/before 9:30AM to Lee's Funeral Home. The Family Thanks You!

Graveside Service & Burial will be on Monday November 15th, 2021, 10:00AM. You may meet at Lee's Funeral Home Monday 9:30AM & follow us in procession to cemetery -OR- meet at Ferncliff Cemetery Gate/Entrance #3 on Monday at 10:00AM. Please be mindful that we're only just arriving at the cemetery at 10:00am & then need to check-in, be lead to the grave & set-up, so please be understanding the start of any services will be shortly after. Please remain in your vehicles until we specifically let you know you may start getting out. Thank you in advance for your understanding & patience.

If attending, please feel free to bring your own chair to sit on, as the service may be longer than you'd want to stand, and the cemetery may not provide chairs or tents during the pandemic and/or windy weather. Once at cemetery & acknowledged as part of our procession, please do NOT get out of/leave your vehicles until instructed to do so. Once at the gravesite, please do not exit your vehicles until after the cemetery personnel have left the gravesite area & we explicitly instruct you to do so.

Please come to the cemetery wearing a mask, and keep the mask on/responsibly social distance as much as possible/the area allows. If you know you have a coronovirus/COVID-19; are sick/experiencing symptoms of coronovirus/COVID-19; are immuno-compromised, have health/other conditions that make your body more susceptible to illness, or are under an imposed or advised quarantine, please do NOT attend services. Please follow & abide by the directions of the funeral home staff and/or cemetery personnel at all times. We Thank You in advance for following directions, NYS law, & cemetery rules so as to make all go smoothly the day of the services, to eliminate further burden on the family, and to maintain the health & safety of All. Any questions, or if any clarity is needed, please call ahead to the funeral home and/or speak to us from a safe distance if present.
