EULOGY
FOR
LAVERNE AMANDA McGARRELL

Now the laborer’s task is o’er
Now the battle day is past
Now upon the farther shore
Lands the voyager at last.
(John Ellerton)

LaVerne Amanda McGarrell was born, raised, and educated in Guyana, South America. She was the daughter of Arnold and Selma McGarrell.
Our sister, Verne, was a gift from the heavens. She had a constant smile and a sunny disposition with a great sense of humour. The warmth and happiness she brought to us and everyone else cannot be overstated. The strength she possessed wasn’t flashy or in your face. In many ways Verne was a quiet, unassuming person who just got on with things. However, it was beneath the surface that her principles and determination lay. If she had a point to make, she made sure, very quietly, that that point was made and understood. We are forever grateful for the treasured memories we have, memories that will never be forgotten.
Auntie Verne had fourteen plus children who she cherished and on whom she lavished unconditional love. She was patient, and generous, with her time and affection. She made time to listen to our problems, and was able to provide wisdom and advice that you may need at just the right time. Auntie Verne was compassionate and loving. This attitude meant that we never felt anything other than love and safety with her.
Auntie Verne, we love you and miss you. Your legacy will continue to shine through us. Sleep on, our beautiful Auntie, Sister, Relative, Friend. You have gone home.
“Now you understand
Just why my head’s not bowed.
I don’t shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud
‘Cause I’m a phenomenal woman
That’s me, Laverne Amanda McGarrell”
(Maya Angelou)

ATTENTION: During the continuing COVID-19 crisis, as we slowly phase back into smaller capacity public visitations/services, we need your help in limiting and controlling the number of people, so please govern yourself accordingly for the health & safety of all. Thank you so kindly!

A Walk-Thru Wake/Visitation/Viewing will be held on Fri. August 26th, 12Noon-1:00PM at Chatterton Hill Church with limited capacity, followed by Funeral Service at 1:00PM. But the church will be live-streaming the service on ZOOM, also available on our website, the day of the service where it says WATCH WEBCAST, so you're able to view there/here also/instead. So you may come to the church to try to attend, with your masks on. At the very least you can get hand sanitizer & sign the register book (NOTE: please feel free to bring your own pen). If not at capacity, you will be allowed in to have a seat; but if at capacity by the time you get there, you may be required to leave the premises after signing register book, so as not to be in violation nor cause a health hazard, so please govern yourself accordingly. Regardless of if you're able to enter/be seated, or not, please refrain from touching/hugging/handshaking, ONLY elbow bumping briefly if at all. If instructed, PLEASE KINDLY RESPECTFULLY leave the building & premises if the church is at their capacity. PLEASE KINDLY RESPECTFULLY follow & abide by the directions of the funeral home staff and/or church or cemetery personnel at all times. We Thank You in advance for following directions & policies, so as to make all go smoothly the day of the services, to eliminate further burden on the family, and to maintain the health & safety of All. Any questions, or if any clarity is needed, please call ahead to the funeral home and/or church, and/or speak to us from a safe distance if present.
