Lindsey Rudolph Smith, Sr. was the son of the late Joseph (Walker) Smith and Susan (King) Smith born on February 4, 1923 in Cairo, Georgia.
He received his formal education in the Cairo school system, served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Tech Sergeant and had a variety of work experiences. This included his tenure at B. Altman & Company where he was in the role of Director of Maintenance retiring after 30 plus years in addition to his service at Cuddy & Feder law firm where he was an integral part of the team from its humble beginnings functioning in the capacity of Office Assistant for 30 plus years.
He was married to the late Mildred Carol McNeil Smith and out of this union they bore one daughter, Leanice (Smith) Tyler and one son, Lindsey Rudolph Smith, Jr.
Lindsey, Sr. was the youngest of eighteen children who were very close-knit. His father and mother instilled strong family values and encouraged their children to be the best that they could be. Even from his youth, Lindsey demonstrated his extraordinary gifts in the areas of singing, where he was the lead vocalist of his jazz group (Lindsey Smith and his Trio) that played throughout the Tri-State area; a prolific poet, having written over 1,500 poems; and, a wise counselor.
On Monday, April 29th, Lindsey transitioned from this life to eternal rest leaving his devoted children, Leanice Tyler (Bruce) and Lindsey Smith, Jr. (Linda); four grandchildren, Deltresa Smith (Josephus Guinn), Lindsey Smith III (Priscilla); Darnell Smith (Amanda); and Jerard Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Donovan Griffin and Veronique Campez.
He, also, leaves behind his god-daughter, Frieda Stanley and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
