Lucy Mack

Listen to Obituary
Lucy Mae Mack was born to the late Willie Bailey and Rebecca Joyner, on May 4, 1925. Lucy’s family were farmers who resided in Nansemond County, Virginia. She completed her 8th grade year of education. Lucy and her siblings worked with their parents to farm land. After the death of her parents, Lucy and her sisters moved forth, taking their family legacy of hard work, diligence and perseverance to build a future.

At the young age of 12, Lucy became a domestic worker and caregiver to a number of families, into her early adulthood. She then found her first love, Airman, Edward Scott Vann. They later married, and Lucy gave birth to her one and only son, Alton Lee Vann. After the death of her husband Edward, she later married her second husband, the late U.S. Navy Petty Officer, Harold J. Mack. They would divorce some years later.

Lucy moved to White Plains, NY, for a fresh start in life. Here, she would find the family of the late I. Newton Brozan, Esq. , and was employed as a live-in domestic worker and caregiver, until her retirement.

Lucy always spoke of loving to travel, but did not care much for flying. She always spent time with her family and her church family. Lucy loved people, and people loved her! She found great joy and peace in singing. She faithfully served in the Jubilee Choir of her home church of Calvary Baptist, for many years. Up until her final days, she bestowed her voice upon us, singing her favorite song, “One More Time”.

The Lord Blessed Lucy to become a “Centurion” this year and He blessed us to be a witness to His Grace and Favor. Lucy was as “strong as an ox” and as “hard as nails!” Over the years, like many of us, she experienced what it means to have a transformed heart, through the love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Cognitively, Lucy was still holding on, finding energy to laugh and reflect.

After an amazing 100 years of her loving heart beating, she “let go and let God!” On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Mother Lucy Mae Mack, clicked her ruby slippers and departed this earth to heaven’s gate, and the Lord gave her eternal rest.

Left to cherish Lucy’s beautiful memory are: Daughter-in-law, Mrs. Diane Hill Vann, ESQ; three Granddaughters: Mrs. Stephanie Cox, Ms. LaShea Vann, Ms. Sunshine Vann; three Great Grand Children: Taylor, Brittney and Wilson Cox Jr….all residing in Maryland.

Three Nephews: Herman Carey residing in Fort, Valley GA., Tony Carey, Kelvin Carey, residing in Westchester County. Three Nieces: Mary K. Carey of White Plains, NY, Marvis Carey of Pelham, NY, Cynthia Jean-Baptiste residing in MN. Five Great Nieces: Michelle Carey residing in GA, Maurcia Dalley of Pelham, NY, Felisha Miller, Brittney Miller residing in White Plains, NY, , Latisha Carey residing in SC; Six Great Nephews: Michael Carey of Peekskill, NY, Anthony Miller, Russell Miller residing in White Plains, NY, Antonio Carey residing in SC, Phillip Jean-Baptiste residing in MN, and Jonathan Jean-Bapitste of CHI; Great Great Niece: Jewel Dalley; Three Great-Great Nephews: Anthony Miller Jr., Russell Miller Jr., and Nyle Miller; and a host of extended family and friends.

Lucy’s passing follows that of her son Alton Lee Vann; three brothers: John, Thomas and Robert Bailey; and eleven sisters: Mary, Mattelene, Lizzie, Lousana, Louise, Rebecca, Fanny and Janie Bailey, Julia Dempsey, Winner Riddick and Willie Mae Carey.
