Mary Roberta Mariah Bell Scott Stewart, affectionately known as "Auntie", 98, of Greenburgh, NY, graduated to Heaven May 12, 2013, "Mothers' Day", which was so appropriate as she was "Mother to Many".
Roberta, as most knew her, was born March 18, 1915 in Burlington, North Carolina to the late Jasper and Lucinda Graham Scott.
She was the first African-American operator in Westchester County. She was one of the first African-Americans employed at New York Telephone Company, where she worked from 1944-1986, retiring after 34 years. Recreationally, she was an avid basketball player, horseback rider, tennis player, bowler and loved acting in neighborhood theater.
She was a dedicated Life Member of the NAACP, where she was a past officer of the local White Plains/Greenburgh Chapter of the NAACP. She was also a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church in White Plains, NY, where she at times served officially, but always unofficially as "Head" Usher
Wake and viewing will be Friday, May 17th from 10:00AM-12noon, immediately followed by Funeral at 12Noon, all at Calvary Baptist Church, 188 Orawaupum St., White Plains, NY 10606. Burial Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
