Ollie Ashe

Listen to Obituary
Ollie Tucker Ashe was born on August 1, 1938, to the union of the late James Ashe Sr. and Martha Lee Ashe. His siblings Robert Ashe, Rev. James Ashe Jr., Lillie Mae Taylor, Charles Ashe Sr., Clarence Ash, Earnestine Dozier, John Ashe, Thomas Ashe, Louise Miggins, Westin Ashe, and Elizabeth Rumph preceded him to death.

Ollie Tucker Ashe “Big Rock” was born and raised in Montgomery, AL. He moved to New York where he met and married Catherine Ashe 62 years ago. From this union, two children were born, the late Ollie Glen Ashe and Catherine Antoinette Ashe.

Ollie was a self-employed Barber for twenty years. He became the Owner of Ashe’s Barber Shop a few years later. Ollie sponsored two softball teams, Ashes Rockets (women) and Ashe’s Barber Shop (men). Ollie coached White Plains Pop Warner Football for several years. After many wins, he would take the entire team out to eat to celebrate their accomplishment. No matter where Ollie went, he greeted everyone with a smile and made sure everyone was doing well. Mr. Ashe “Big Rock” was The Community of White Plains - the dad, son, nephew, and uncle to so many people.

Ollie was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church, White Plains, NY. He enjoyed listening to the hymns and hearing the preached word every Sunday. His favorite song was “Climbing Higher Mountains” by Aretha Franklin.

Ollie Tucker Ashe leaves forever to cherish his loving memories and embrace his legacy: wife Catherine Ashe; daughter Catherine Ashe; 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Sibling Evelyn (Charles) Jones; Sisters-in-law: Mary Emma Ashe, Nellie Ashe, Cora Ashe, Beverly Ash, Johanna Morris Lundy; and Brothers-in-law: Vernon Rumph, Wayne Morris, Jonathan Morris, George Morris (deceased); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A special thanks to St. Peter’s Hospital, Evergreen Nursing Home, Lee’s Funeral Home, Bethel Baptist Church White Plains and Metropolitan NTM Baptist Church. Your kindness and support throughout the years has not gone unnoticed. We extended our sincere and deepest appreciation for the love, prayers, and all generous acts of kindness during our time of sorrow. May God continue to bless you and keep you each day.
Thank you so much, from the family of Ollie Tucker Ashe “Big Rock”.
