Pearl Williams

Listen to Obituary
Pearl Williams was born on December 30, 1924, the daughter to Agatha & John Smith from Spalding in Clarendon, Jamaica. She was the oldest of 7 siblings. Six are deceased and her surviving sister is gravely ill in Jamaica.

At sixteen Pearl moved to Kingston to live with her Aunt Rose, where she completed her education at Boxston Secondary school. She started working at age seventeen, riding her bicycle across Kingston selling fabric. During this time Pearl met the love of her life and her husband of 70 years, Ugent Gladstone Williams, who is deceased. They had two children Keith and Jean.

Between 1953 -1956 the Williams family moved to England. Pearl worked a few odd jobs, before managing her own grocery store in South East London. In 1968-1969, Pearl and Ugent moved to America and resided in White Plains, NY for the rest of their life.

Pearl worked as a Dietician Aide at Ruth Taylor Institute, Valhalla, NY, until her retirement in 1983.

She was a peaceful, charitable, loving, funny and private person. Her devotion never wavered, from Calvary Baptist Church to the First Seventh Day Adventist Church. Faith and family was her life. Pearl’s heart was in every dish she prepared. She cooked for a village and the village came.

Pearl is survived by her sister Joanne Green, 2 children Keith (Australia) & Jean (White Plains, NY), 8 grandchildren Michelle, Jackie, Michael, Elaine, Matthew, Aaron, Joel & David. 6 Great Grandchildren, 3 great, great grandchildren. She also leaves to cherish her memory her beloved church family and a very dear friend Sister Fredda.
