Phylis Seward Harris

Listen to Obituary
Phylis Deloris Seward was born August 18, 1939, at Grassland Hospital, in White Plains, NY. She was the second child born to the late William Mason Seward and Willa Gee Seward, both of Kenbridge, VA.

She had a giving and caring spirit and received much joy by being around her family. She loved calling her selected friends and family members to check in and make sure they are doing well. She was an avid reader and devoured the news. She enjoyed traveling to new places, doing cross word puzzles and watching her favorite TV programs, including Tyler Perry’s The Oval, and Wheel of Fortune.

Phylis departed this life, at home, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 in White Plains, NY. She attended White Plains High School, and was married to the late William E. Harris. After 45 years of service, Phylis retired from White Plains Hospital as Supervisor of The Café. She also worked 16 years, for The Board of Elections representing the Democratic Party.

She was raised in the church and became a member of First Community Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, MYE Choir, Celestial Voices, Trustees, and Transportation Committee. She also was a member of Bethel Baptist Church Senior Ministry and Slater Center for Senior’s.

She leaves to cherish her memory her brother Donald M. Seward of Kenbridge, VA; sister in-laws, Charlotte Seward, Barbara Harris, Elaine Harris, Gail Harris, Peggy Harris, Pauline Harris, Caffie Harris, and Gladys Harris; brother in-laws, Thurston Harris, James Harris, George Adams, Lawrence Bethea; nieces, Donna Seward Coleman, Dolores Seward, Oneda Seward McKee, Katrina Harris, Kathy Harris, Shakeia Johnson, Catherine Mitchell, Tanya Harris-Forth, Sheila Harris, Mildred Ann Smith, Candra Harris, Latisha Harris and Melissa Bethea; nephews, Donald W. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, Sept. 30, at the First Community Baptist Church, 142 Edgepark Road, White Plains, NY 10603, (914) 686-0632. Viewing starts at 11:00am and Home Going Celebration will begin at 12:00pm. The Home Going Celebration will also be live streamed on Zoom, meeting id is 606 845 0362.
