Celebrating the Life of Richard George Cummings ~ November 5th, 1941 – October 11th, 2025
Richard George Cummings, age 83, of White Plains, NY, passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2025. He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather who touched the lives of many. His infectious laugh and kindness will leave a joyous memory in all that he knew.
Richard George Cummings was born on November 5th, 1941, at Vassar Brothers Hospital, Poughkeepsie, NY. He was the son of Pauline Elizabeth Cummings, grandson of John Paul and Edith Edmond Cummings as well as Joseph and Nellie Willis. He attended Millbrook Central School District, where he played football.
Throughout his life, Richard worked as a Cook at several local institutions: Grasslands Hospital (now Westchester Medical Center), St. Agnes Hospital and Tarrytown Hall Nursing Home, spanning 30 years. While working at St. Agnes Hospital, Richard stayed active as a member of the hospital’s bowling & softball leagues. Richard wore many hats professionally, as not only was he a talented Chef; he also worked as a Custodian at Woodlands High School and R.J. Bailey Elementary School in the Greenburgh School District; and he had several Security Officer jobs over the years. Due to his commitment and awareness on the job, Richard received a Certificate of Appreciation in Public Safety from the City of White Plains. Richard was always willing to lend a helping hand and make a positive impact on the community.
Richard was a member of Union Baptist Church for 42 years, where he attended regularly until recent years. He always looked forward to the special services for Easter and Christmas. He will also be remembered for his generosity towards family and his community.
Richard George Cummings is survived by his wife Rosella Marilee Cummings; sons: Melvin Devnor (Felecia) Cummings of Peekskill, NY and Scott Alexander Cummings of Stamford, CT; sisters: Celeste Van Dyke of Bronx, NY, Barbara Dennis of Bronx, NY and Jonette Fenwick of Bronx, NY; grandchildren: Tierra Jacqueline Monet Cummings, Alexis Danielle Jackson, Tarique Devore Cummings and Kira Anne Cummings; six great-grandchildren; and was preceded in death by grandson Scott Alexander Cummings Jr. He also leaves behind sisters-in-law: Rosa Mae Hogans, Annie Ruth Godette, Brenda Faye Forman and Mary Joyce Godette; one brother-in-law John Jasper; and several nieces & nephews. Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will remain Forever in our Hearts.

A Wake/Visitation/Viewing will be held on Friday, October 24th, 2025, from 10:00AM-11:00AM at Union Baptist Church, followed by Funeral Service at 11:00AM. So you may come to the Church to attend, & feel free to wear masks. At the very least you can get hand sanitizer & sign the register book (NOTE: please feel free to bring your own pen -OR- you may bring an address label to paste in register book in lieu of signing). If not at capacity, you will be allowed in to have a seat; but if at capacity by the time you get there, you may be required to leave the premises after signing register book, so as not to be in violation nor cause a health hazard, so please govern yourself accordingly. Regardless of if you're able to enter/be seated, or not, please refrain from too much touching/hugging/handshaking, preferably elbow bumping briefly if at all. If instructed, PLEASE KINDLY RESPECTFULLY leave the building & premises if the church is at their capacity. PLEASE KINDLY RESPECTFULLY follow & abide by the directions of the funeral home staff and/or church or cemetery personnel at all times. White Plains Rural Cemetery
Burial immediately following funeral services. Please feel free to continue to wear a mask, and follow & abide by the rules of the cemetery and directions of the funeral home staff and/or cemetery personnel at all times. Please do NOT get out of your vehicles until after the casket is out of hearse, we've beckoned cars closer to gravesite & car has come to 2nd of two full stops, & the cemetery personnel have left the area, then Immediately get out cars & approach graveside for service. Immediately after the graveside services are finished, ALL MUST LEAVE the cemetery immediately and Before the cemetery will cover the grave, which the public is NOT allowed to witness.
