Robert Huff Jr

Listen to Obituary
Robert Huff, Jr., 73, formerly of Lawrenceville, Georgia, earned his wings on October 7, 2024. He was born on February 14, 1951, in New Haven, Connecticut. He was the cherished son of Clarice and Robert Huff, Sr., and the oldest of six children, a role he embraced with love and dedication throughout his life.

Robert was a graduate of Wilbur Cross High School in New Haven, Connecticut (class of 1969) and as a high school student enrolled in the afterschool space program through Southern New England Telephone Company and was hired as a full-time service technician. He devoted 45 years of service before retiring from now AT&T in May of 2012. His work ethic and commitment to excellence were a true testament to his character.

Robert met the love of his life, Linda Smalls, in Boston, Massachusetts. Their whirlwind romance culminated in a lunchtime wedding on February 17, 1972, at the courthouse in White Plains, New York, followed by a memorable honeymoon in Montreal, Canada. They eventually settled in West Haven, Connecticut, purchasing their first home in 1974, before moving to a house they built in Cheshire, Connecticut, in 1982.

A dedicated member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Robert's life was deeply rooted in his faith and community. He was also a volunteer firefighter in Cheshire, where he devoted countless hours to fire training and
safety measures.

Robert was lovingly known as "Poop" to his wife, "Bobby" to family, "Huff" to close friends, "The Governa" to his New York Crew, "Pierre" in the streets of Paris, and "Dad" to his children. His vibrant spirit, generosity, and love for family left an impact on everyone he knew.

Robert enjoyed traveling, cruising the world, going to jazz concerts, watching sports, soap operas, bartending, and spending time with family. He was a loyal New York Giants fan, and often spent time good naturedly ribbing his brothers and friends about their teams. As an avid card player, Bobby spent hours with his family not only playing but analyzing each hand, whether it was spades, gin rummy, or bid whist. He always played to win. He loved comedy, often reminiscing about the legendary routines of Redd Foxx, Richard Pryor, and Bill Cosby. He was also a lover of food, from fresh lobster to pizza, he knew where to find the best meals for the best prices.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Linda Smalls Huff; his son, Robert Huff III; daughters, Deirdre Huff and Korey Hannans; and a loving host of siblings: Deborah Taylor (Billy Taylor), David Huff (Donna Huff), Kevin Huff (Doris Huff), Karryn Rivers, Pamela Huff, Robert Smalls (Ruby Smalls), and Tracy Corbin (Wendi Corbin), along with many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Robert's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and family. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him. Family and friends will forever share memories and honor his legacy.

If you wish to send flowers, please send them in a plant or vase arrangement only. For those that do not wish to send flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America in Robert's memory --- https:/lwww.dementiasociety.org
