Rosalind Llewellyn

Listen to Obituary
Rosalind Llewellyn was born on August 6, 1926 to Charles and Alma Llewellyn in the parish of St. Ann, Jamaica. She was the third child of five children: Hermine, Ammon, Rosalind, Samuel and Curtis. Her early schooling was in the district of Breadnut Hill, St. Ann, where she also grew up.

She spoke of the long walks to school and the early morning chores (milking cows and preparing butter) on the farm. She attended nursing school in Jamaica and thereafter worked at Bellevue Hospital in Kingston, Jamaica.

Rosalind met Lloyd Robinson in Jamaica, West Indies. Their relationship produced her only daughter Donna Robinson-Hampton. Donna was also blessed by her dad with three wonderful sisters: Jennifer Mayers, Joan Robinson-Brown and Shelly Robinson.

Rosalind migrated to America and attended Mercy College, where she completed her Bachelor’s in nursing. She worked at Morrisania Hospital for a few years and then she transferred to North Central Bronx Hospital (NCB). At NCB she worked in the Medical Surgical unit and later transferred to the psychiatric department. She truly enjoyed working in this area. She retired from the profession of nursing as a psychiatric nurse. She attended certification programs to keep herself current in the changing nursing world. She was also an avid reader and she enjoyed learning new skills.

My grandmother was extremely loving, and kind towards her family members and friends. She was also very funny and loved to tease. She often wore a mischievous smile in her later years. Especially when she did not want to listen to me or her home attendant. She often told me, “you are not my boss ". Then she would call my mom to report me. She would tell my mom, “she did not do anything wrong, but Joshua just wants to tell me what to do". My grandmother was my caregiver as a child, and I lived with her for a few months and helped her in her later years. Life is truly a circle.

She loved music, dancing, sports (basketball, cricket, and baseball) and her church. She attended St. Mathew's Lutheran Church in White Plains for many years. She knew the latest rap artists and former popular artists to keep up conversations with me. She loved Snoop Dogg and the athlete Dennis Rodman. She was always checking up on me and my mother to make sure we got home or reached our destinations safely.

Rosalind passed away peacefully on March 11, 2023 at 1:15 PM at the age of 96 years old.

She will be missed by her family and friends.
