Samuel Robinson Jr

Listen to Obituary
Samuel Robinson, a long time resident of White Plains, NY, died on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2014 at the age of 86.

He was born in Sheldon, South Carolina on September 1, 1927, to the late Samuel Robinson, Sr. and Elizabeth Smalls Robinson. Samuel, who was affectionately known as “Junnie” was the eldest of three siblings: They were Joseph (Joe) Harrison (Harry) and Geneva (Mimi), who are all now deceased.

Sam served his country honorably as a member of the Army.

Sam worked as a sanitation worker for the City of White Plains, stating that they used to drive horse drawn carts to collect the garbage. He proudly stated that he was the first of the Black workers to drive the motorized truck. He used to display a gold pocket watch that was given to him when he retired.

Junnie was a God fearing man and earned the title of Deacon Sam. If you gave him enough time, he would give you a testimony, but he was always ready to sing a song of praise. Before Sam went into the nursing home he was a member of Little Mount Zion Holiness Church of White Plains, NY where the Reverend John F. Davis is the Pastor.

Junnie has six nieces and nephews left to cherish his memory: Joann, Joseph Jr. and Jerome (Joseph's offspring); Douglas and Tyrone (Harrison's offspring); and Janiece (Geneva's daughter). A niece and a nephew pre-deceased him: Kevin (Geneva's son) and Karen (Harrison's daughter). He also leaves a host of cousins and friends.
