Her Journey in Life

Shirley Louise Brathwaite Cosby was born on December 21, 1935 to the late Wilbert “Gil” Brathwaite and Dorothy Johnson Brathwaite Pontiflet in Atlantic City, New Jersey. She transitioned from this life on August 14, 2020 peacefully at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell C. Cosby.

Shirley was a woman of faith and attended Union Baptist Church in Greenburgh, New York until physical limitations prohibited her attendance. Shirley was educated in the White Plains school system. She was a secretary with IBM Corporation in White Plains, New York, retiring in 1990 after 22 years of service.

Shirley loved traveling and her most memorable trip was to the Holy Land. She loved her family and friends and was especially proud of her grandsons.

She leaves behind, to cherish her beautiful memory, her devoted children: Sharon Cosby, Rahway, NJ; Diane Cosby, Albany, NY; and Russell David (Sonji) Cosby, Grand Prairie, TX; grandsons Ismael AbduSalaam, Atlanta, GA; Joseph and Joshua Cosby, Grand Prairie, TX; her only sister Joan Harris, Hartsdale, NY; niece Renee Brunelle, Oceanside, CA. Also, her buddy, Cousin Wanda Jamison and a host of other relatives and friends.

Secor Road, HARTSDALE, NY,

This will be a Graveside Service. The service is scheduled to begin at 11:00am, and run roughly 20-30 mins. You may bring your own chair, if you'd like/need to sit and not stand the duration. If attending, you may either meet at Lee's FH between 10:15-10:30am Mon. to follow us in the processional behind the hearse to the cemetery, OR meet at Entrance/Gate #3 of Ferncliff Cemetery between 10:50-11:00am. Thank you.

You MUST come to the cemetery wearing a mask, & wear the mask at all times.
