Tina Roberts

Listen to Obituary
Tina Marie Roberts, born February 13, 1969, in New York Hospital, came into this world as a six-month preemie weighing only three pounds. She began to thrive after staying in the hospital for a week, in which we were able to bring her home. As she grew, a cardiac pediatrician diagnosed that Tina had a hole in the heart in which they were planning surgery, but after much prayer, the hole closed on its own.
Beginning her educational journey, she skipped kindergarten and started first grade. On her first day at school, somehow, the school bus left her behind. We called the school, and they had yet to learn where Tina was. We began to pray and knew that God was taking care of her. Within fifteen minutes, we see this six-year-old child skipping down Fordham Road. Meeting her, she told us that the bus left her; therefore, she decided to walk home. Tina had to cross three major streets, but the Lord had His angels surround her and bring her home safely. As a child, she never exemplified fear.
After graduating from elementary, middle, and high school, Tina continued her educational journey from Westchester Community College to Stony Brook College, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in math education. She continued to Lehman College, where she graduated with a master’s degree in math. Tina decided to teach math and got a position with the New York City Board of Education, teaching math at the middle school level. After teaching for many years in the Bronx, she decided to leave and take an early retirement from education.
Other accomplishments were her singing abilities. As a young child of five years old, she had the gift of singing alto on the pitch to everyone’s amazement. As a family, we started a singing group called the “Streams of Light” with her two sisters, Sheila and Sharon, and three friends, Yvonne, Scott, and Marcella. The Streams of Light were invited to sing at many churches, Christian camps, and the Hershey Amusement Park in Pennsylvania.
Tina accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior early in her life. She first attended the Grace Gospel Chapel and later became a member at Bethel Gospel Assembly and the Tabernacle of Praise ministry.Continuing her spiritual journey, she was led to attend the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, New York, becoming a member and singing with their choir for many years. When the travel from White Plains to Brooklyn became challenging, Tina began to look for a church closer to home. As the Lord led Tina, she found Reach Church. Enjoying the ministry of the word and growing to appreciate the loving fellowship of believers, she decided to become a member.
Tina loved the Lord so much that she wept daily because of His presence in her life. Becoming a part of a discipleship class at Reach Church, Tina received training for street ministry. It was a delight for Tina to witness to people in the White Plains and Yonkers malls, compelling them to accept Jesus Christ in their lives. We also experienced Tina laying hands on people with physical issues and saw them healed immediately. At Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, her sister Sheila witnessed Tina praying for another cancer patient in her room who had leg pains. Tina prayed for her roommate, and the pain was resolved.
Tina also had concerns for family and friends and, when speaking with them, challenged them to make sure they were in the faith, walking with the Lord according to His divine principles. Three years ago, Tina was diagnosed with a cancerous disease called leiomyosarcoma. She had surgery to remove the tumor, and after surgery, she started chemotherapy and was doing well. Still, the cancerous growth returned and became a large mass, so she started chemotherapy again.
As she grew weaker, her joy and love for the Lord increased. She transitioned on October 8 at 12:35AM. leaving her parents, Shirley and Arthur Roberts, Aunt Lorraine, Uncle Louie and her sister Sharon, married to Marco Lovell, and sister Sheila, married to Harvel Patrick, and nieces and a nephew who she dearly loved, Liana, Shana, Noriza, Kezia, and Rian, many cousins, and a host of friends.
We miss her, but know she is with the Lord, and the beauty is that we will see her again.
