Yvonne Clarice Seal Graves departed this life on February 8, 2013 at the age of 86 of natural causes. She was a longtime resident of Greenburgh.
She was born on January 3, 1927 to Hudson and Clarice Seal in Harlem, NY. She was the older sister of Frank Seal who predeceases her. Her parents immigrated here from Barbados.
She was a graduate of Hunter High School and Hunter College. She obtained her Master’s Degree from New York University and went on to become a teacher in the New York City Public School System. After a full and satisfying career in the New York City Public School System, she retired in the mid-1980's. After retiring she went on to mentor many others outside of the classroom.
She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Westchester Chapter and was responsible for making sure that her sorors always received their birthday cards.
She was also a long standing member of Grace Episcopal Church in White Plains, NY.
She was a warm and wonderful person who had many friends and family. She is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years Dr. Oscar Graves, her sons Daryl and Kevin Graves and her daughter Lesley Graves and daughters-in-law, both of whom are named Donna.
She is also survived by four grandchildren - Kayla, Keith, Nathaniel and Meg, her stepson Anthony Graves, nieces Claire and Toni and several other family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM at Grace Episcopal Church, 33 Church Street, White Plains, NY 10601 on Saturday, March 2, 2013.
